Friendship Ministry is Peace's outreach program with disabled adults. Through various monthly activites to a week-long residential camp in the summer, Friendship Ministries changes the lives of THOSE it serves, as well as the lives of those WHO serve.
Get away for a week of camp! Camp Friendship is a four day, three night Christian camp for differently-abled adults held the 2nd full week of July. At Camp Friendship, each camper is paired with a volunteer who serves as a camp companion for all camp activities. Each day of camp is filled with fun activities, including Bible learning, arts and crafts, and a wide variety of recreation activities including swimming, hiking, fishing, team sports and more.
Volunteers including camper companions, people to prepare and serve meals, and respite volunteers are needed at camp each year. Internship and community service hours are available for students who volunteer. Camper and volunteer registration information NOW AVAILABLE (See below). For more information, or to get involved:
contact Pat Tietz or Louise Machemehl.
1) Become a Camper Companion. Download companion informational letter and complete a Companion Application. Can't commit to the full week? Then help out with our various recreation times, one day or all the days! Contact Pat Tietz or Louise Machemehl.
2) Volunteer to help serve meals. Having overnight campers means feeding our overnight campers! Help prepare and or serve the meals for our campers and companions. Help one day or more. Contact Janet Schmitt to get involved.
3) Serve as a Respite Volunteer: This is a great opportunity for individuals or families (ages 14 & up). Join us in Peace's Fellowship Hall to play games and do crafts with Campers, 6-8pm Tuesday-Thursday. Serve one, two or all three days! You'll have a blast! Contact Dorina Kramer for more information and to sign up.
On the first and third Thursdays of each month (fall-spring) join us 6:30-7:30pm, Fellowship Hall, as we engage our adult friends with cognitive disabilities for Bible learning, music, art, prayer and friendship.
For more information, or to get involved, contact Pat Tietz or Louise Machemehl.
On the first or second Saturday of each month (October through May), Peace offers a 9am-3pm “day camp” respite ministry for persons age 14 and above with cognitive disabilities. Join us for Bible study, art, recreation, music, worship, food, friendship and plenty of smiles.
Volunteers are needed to help provide food for and serve lunch meals during Respite Saturdays. Volunteers are also needed to assist participants in respite activities. Volunteer once in a while, or every month! Contact Pat Tietz to get involved.
