Michael Lester, Minister of Music and the Arts
Michael Lester is a native Texan and graduate of Baylor University. While earning his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in piano performance, he studied with Russian pianist and Artist-in-Residence, Krassimira Jordan. Following graduation, he studied at the Borsendorfer International Piano Academy in Vienna, Austria.
In 1994, Mr. Lester moved to Columbus, Ohio where he served as vocal coach at the Ohio State University, and was on the piano faculty at Ohio Wesleyan and Columbus State Community College. In 2000, Mr. Lester joined the faculty at Otterbein College where he taught both piano and voice, until 2008.
Michael began work at Peace in 1999 and his position became full time in 2004. At Peace, Michael is able to incorporate all the aspects of his musical background: from gospel music to classical music; from choral music to instrumental music and from his knowledge in Opera to spirituals.
In addition to his responsibilities at Peace, he continues to perform regularly with voice and instrumental faculty at colleges and universities country wide. Also he continues to be a pianist/coach for the American Institute of Music Singing (A.I.M.S) in Graz Austria during the summer months. Mr. Lester has also performed as piano soloist in many cities in Texas, Ohio, California, and Austria.
Mr. Lester has recently given a presentation for the Ohio Music Teachers Association on the art of collaboration between the singer/pianist. Also, Michael and soprano, Carren Moham collaborated on a cd entitled “Sonnets on Love, Rosebuds and Death.”
